The cheeks are one of the first places we start to lose volume from as the ageing process continues, particularly for patients over 40. While treatments such as wrinkle reducing injections and chemical skin peels can improve the look of wrinkles and sun damaged skin these forms of facial rejuvenation treatment cannot help improve volume in the mid face. For patients seeking an alternative to cosmetic surgery, or seeking a more holistic approach to anti-ageing, thread lifts and dermal fillers may be suitable.
The mid face refers to the cheek area of the face, and as we age and collagen production slow down we can begin to appear a little gaunt. Some patients, especially women, find concern with the sunken look of cheeks and wish to try aesthetic treatment to rejuvenate the area and restore volume where possible.
Thread lifts such as Silhouette Soft and dermal filler injections can lift and sculpt the mid face, providing a more youthful appearance. In our twenties, the cheeks appear round and sit high on the face, but as we enter our forties, patients often notice this youthful volume rapidly diminishes, leading to them seeking cosmetic treatment. These two forms of non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment aim to restore a healthy full look to the cheeks, and unlike surgical options do not require recovery time away from work or family life.
Thread lifts and dermal fillers are popular and reliable anti-ageing treatments in their own right, but combined they can offer a superior result for patients. While dermal fillers are injectable in nature, thread lifts involve thin sutures being placed under the skin to lift the tissues. When used in combination, thread lifts and dermal fillers can produce a striking result that can last up to 24 months.
Thread lifts are one of the most up and coming cosmetic treatments to become available for patients seeking anti-ageing solutions to skin that has started to sag or become lax. APSARAS Clinic in Coventry was one of the first aesthetic practices in the Midlands to offer this revolutionary treatment to men and women from Birmingham, Derby, Stafford, Leicester and Derby.
There are several types of threads (or sutures) which can be used, but at APSARAS Clinic we offer Silhouette Soft threads. These have special cones attached to the threads which further lift the tissues, kick starting new collagen production. In time, the area treated with threads can naturally look more volumised and youthful.
The Silhouette Soft 30 minute non-surgical facelift requires a small local anaesthetic before Dr. Thevendra inserts the suture – using a needle – under the skin to a depth of about three to five millimetres. It is held in place with absorbable cones sloping in opposite directions. Once the suture has been inserted, the doctor reshapes the area by hand to obtain the desired lifting effect.
Thread lifts can help to lift sunken skin in the mid face, offering patients a rejuvenated but subtle result. Whilst it can’t match a facelift, for small areas of the mid face this type of anti-ageing treatment can give a noticeable lift which leaves patients looking more youthful. When combined with dermal fillers – which use hyaluronic acid to volumise the area they’re injected in to – the cheeks can appear fuller, lifted and sculpted.
